Why Does My Furnace Keep Shutting Off?

A furnace that fires up, runs for a few minutes, shuts off, and then starts again shortly after — rather than completing a full heating cycle — is called short-cycling. Why It's Worth Fixing, Not Just Living With

Short-cycling puts more wear on the igniter, blower motor, and control board than normal operation, since each start-stop cycle is a mechanical stress point. It also means the furnace isn't actually heating efficiently — you're paying for repeated startup cycles instead of steady, even heat.
